Voice Radio is the primary initiative of the Youth Activities Project, which was founded in January 2006 as a multi-agency initiative led by Gwent Police and supported by Caerphilly County Borough Council, GAVO (Gwent Association for Voluntary Organisations), schools and community groups.

We provide educational, recreational, social and creative activities for all people living within the area covering Caerphilly County Borough (which is recognised as being socially and materially deprived), in order to enhance their development, extend their skills and experiences and achieve their full potential by participating in positive activities otherwise unavailable.

We provide a radio and media provision within the borough which broadcasts permanently online and currently once a year on the FM Waveband.

The station offers participants - and promotes to its listener’s - education, training, employment opportunities, skill enhancement, the development of emotional intelligence, services and facilities, as well as entertainment.

The station has achieved so much since its launch in 2006, but we know that there are so many ways in which we can continue to grow.

Jane Hutt AM Said!

We know that we have travelled a long way from the humble beginnings of Voice FM in January 2006.

We’d like to say a big thank you to those who have helped us along this journey over the last few years.

Official Launch May 5th 2006

About Us
Information

The name of the station was chosen following a competition involving school pupils from Cwmcarn High School and Newbridge Comprehensive School.  They were asked to come up with the name for the station, and win some fantastic and exclusive prizes - as well as the honour of naming a radio station!

Within days, over 250 suggestions were posted.  We pondered over the suggestions, finally narrowing them down to a shortlist of 10.  The winner was Sara Hiscox from Cwmcarn High School, and it is thanks to her idea of “giving young people the chance to have their voice heard”, that your community radio station got its name.

A big thank you to Sara and everyone else who participated!

We are your community station and value you as a listener, and we welcome any suggestions or support that you can give us to help us improve what is your service.  That’s right, a community station is accountable to its community, and we want to hear from you! Make your voice heard loud and proud.  Voice FM is a station that is truly “community NOT commercial” and “here to be heard”.
